Marc Spector

Marc Spector's expertise in managing media businesses is a key ingredient in The Marc Alan Group's effectiveness for media clients in both growth and recession economies. For example:
  • As group publisher for vertical telecommunications markets at Advanstar Communications Inc.—a worldwide business information company—Marc developed strategic selling plans, redesigned the product line, repositioned individual products, launched new print properties, and introduced a weekly online newsletter. His group finished $1,780,000 over budget in profit.

  • Rising through regional and national sales management positions, Marc became group publisher for wireless markets at Penton Media Inc. with P/L and marketing responsibility for two leading vertical B2B publications, an annual directory, four trade shows and conferences, one Chinese language edition, and all corresponding revenue-generating websites as well as oversight of numerous print, online and conference launches. Over his nearly six years as group publisher, Marc grew profits organically from $1M on $6M in revenue with five profit centers to $3M on $11M in revenue with eight profit centers targeting OEM engineers and engineering managers. Profit ratios increased on all revenue streams.

Marc is also well versed on the client side of the media equation. He served successfully for three years with general management responsibilities as executive vice president of Norsal Industries, a microwave component manufacturer for military and commercial OEMs. Starting with Norsal as Domestic and International Sales Manager, Marc established the company’s competitive positioning and sales strategies and managed 15 independent sales organizations. Subsequently, as VP sales and marketing, he doubled Norsal’s revenues over a four-year period.

Marc has a B.A. in Psychology with a Business Administration minor from State University of New York, Albany. His graduate studies include Industrial Psychology at Steven’s Institute of Technology and Business Finance at Columbia Graduate School of Continuing Education.
